The Finance Ministry has announced an extension of the deadline to link the Permanent Account Number (PAN) card and Aadhaar card to June 30, 2023. According to a notification by the Central Board of Direct Taxes, all unlinked PAN cards will become inoperative from July 1, 2023. Taxpayers can now link their Aadhaar to the prescribed authority for Aadhaar-PAN linking without facing repercussions before June 30, 2023.

As a result, refunds will not be issued for such PANs, and interest will not accrue during the period in which the PAN is non-operational.. After reaching the homepage, locate the 'Link Aadhaar' option situated under the 'Quick Links' section on the left-hand side of the page and click on it.Step 2: Enter your PAN and Aadhaar details
On the next page, you will need to enter your PAN and Aadhaar details. Ensure that you input the details accurately. Once you have provided the details, click on the button labeled 'View Link Aadhaar Status'.
Step 3: Check your Aadhaar-PAN linking status
After clicking on the ‘View Link Aadhaar Status’ button, the website will display your Aadhaar-PAN linking status. If the linking of your PAN with Aadhaar has been successful, the website will show a message stating that "Your PAN is linked to Aadhaar Number XXXX XXXX XXXX".. If your PAN is not linked with Aadhaar, the website will display a message saying ‘There is no record for the provided details’.
In case your PAN is not linked with Aadhaar, you will need to link them to avoid any inconvenience. The government has made it mandatory to link your PAN with Aadhaar to file your income tax returns (ITR). Failing to link your PAN with Aadhaar may result in the cancellation of your PAN card.
